Review of SMOK Magneto
In this review, I will tell you right away about probably one of the first mechanical mods with constant contact, which is so loved by mechanical owners – SMOK Magneto.
The mechanical mod is produced and sold in a faceless cardboard box, it is not even painted… Useful information includes the names of the mod itself and the manufacturer, as well as two stickers, one indicating the color, and the second containing a number for checking the authenticity of the device.
Appearance and features of Smok Magneto
Magneto can work on any 18XXX batteries (18340/18350/18490/18500/18650/18700). When folded, it is just a brass tube 85 mm high, but once you start rotating the upper part, its length increases to an impressive 115 mm (and this is without the evaporator).
Of the designer delights on the mod, you can notice the wave grooves on the top cover, the grooves on the 510 connector and the dots on the base of the button. canada vape shops These tricks do not help in assembling / disassembling the mod, as well as the deeply engraved SMOK inscription, and therefore are considered decorations. Of the useful ones, it is worth noting only two small holes for gas outlet, which, however, will not help much. Due to the features (which are below), the mod is more likely to break in half than the pressure from a damaged battery leaves the body through these two holes.

The connector here, surprisingly, is 510 (although back then it was fashionable to put eGo even in mechanical mods), but it has slots for lower air intake. On the other hand, these “grooves” can also be attributed to design delights.
SMOK Magneto – components
When disassembled, the mod consists of four main parts: the top cover, the telescope tube, the body and the button.
SMOK Magneto – connector disassembled
The top cover is made of brass and is connected with a fairly thin thread (approximately M20x1 with the telescope tube and conceals one important detail, about which nothing is written in the instructions. This is an adjustable positive pin. Before installing the evaporator, you need to unscrew it slightly, then screw the evaporator on and only then clamp it until it stops, ensuring reliable contact. You can safely screw evaporators that are not intended for a hybrid connection onto this type of connector (for example, most old clearomizers, and quite a lot of modern tanks with no maintenance).
SMOK Magneto – telescope
The telescope tube, judging by its weight and tactile sensations, is made of a secret Chinese alloy of foil and cardboard, and then galvanically coated with a thin layer of copper and brass on top. The part is so light and does not inspire confidence that it involuntarily raises concerns in its professional suitability. It is precisely the thin threads on this “thing” that will break off first of all in case of problems with the battery and no gas outlet holes will be needed.
SMOK Magneto – button
The button consists of four parts (I did not disassemble it, because it is pointless, there is nothing to look at there): the button body (chromed for variety), the brass button itself with an engraving of a spider and a second pressed magnet, a brass locking ring and a small brass ring retainer and at the same time the second element of the contact group.
There is not even the weakest spring inside and in the “free” state the button rattles quite a bit, and at the same time it shows well how much it can be squeezed out.
SMOK Magneto – button lock
The button is locked by a special ring with a reverse thread, i.e. by continuing to tighten the button you will immediately lock it, and when removing it from the lock, any extra force will lead to the button itself being unscrewed. It is worth admitting that due to the button protruding beyond the body, the locking mechanism in this mod is simply necessary.
Conclusions
For its time, SMOK Magneto was definitely a breakthrough! Works on any batteries, does not have an eGo connector, constant contact, the button is on magnets…
