Review of Augvape S2 Squonk

Review of Augvape S2 Squonk

Today we will look at an unregulated squonk on a MOSFET called S2, released jointly by the Chinese manufacturer Augvape and the Americans Mass Mods.

This device is the result of cooperation between Mass Mods, which produces “mass”, but not at all cheap devices, and Augvape, which has recently been delighting users with a wide variety of tanks, drippers and mods at a very affordable price. According to both companies, the guys teamed up to create the best that can satisfy a lover of high-quality devices and not hit the pocket hard, the “ceiling” for the device was set at $ 50. But to put it bluntly, this is just a “light” version of the CS1 squonk released in 2018, which at the start of sales adorned a price tag of over $ 200. That is, before us is a mod developed and invented in California and produced at Augvape facilities in China.

The mod comes in a fairly simple box made of thick cardboard, the lid is adorned with the logos of both companies, the name of the squonk and an image of the device in black. Looking ahead, I will say that this is the only possible design option. online vaping shop in canada On the front side, in accordance with the requirements of Prop 65, there is a warning about the nicotine contained (though with the logical caveat “If you pour in liquid with nicotine”). On the back side there is another similarly large warning, a number of pictograms and a long list of contraindications and warnings for the use of any vaping devices at all.

Bottle (installed in the mod)

Warranty card

The device does not have a complete set, inside the box you can only find the mod itself and a red warranty card. There are no instructions, no extras or spare parts, although a spare bottle or even an O-ring (below it will become clear what we are talking about) would not hurt here. Moreover, there is not even a slightest description of the device’s characteristics anywhere.

Appearance and design of the S2 Squonk

Augvape S2 Squonk in the palm of your handThis device was announced by the manufacturer at the beginning of the year, it is difficult to call it a novelty, but at the same time, it has appeared on sale in our latitudes quite recently. Apparently, the device was developed primarily for the Western market, where it was mainly sold, since it is still difficult to find the mod on Chinese sites, and in American and European stores the price has fallen from the initially announced “fifty” to today. So much so that the mod can easily compete with countless crooked clones on the fast. The design of the S2 Squonk can rightfully be called minimalistic: a simple rectangle with noticeable protrusions, one in the front near the button for the index finger, the second in the back for support in the palm. And with a reverse grip, the shape is still quite comfortable: rounded corners do not “cut” fingers, a pleasant, slightly rough surface does not slip and does not get dirty much (streaks are visible, but are easily rubbed off even with a finger). The dimensions cannot be called completely miniature, my Hugo Vapor URUS under 21700 is only a couple of millimeters higher, but the S2 brick does not get lost in your hand.

Specifications

Dimensions: 27 (thickness) * 53 (width) * 80 (height) mm

Weight: 113g (with battery: 161g)

Materials: stainless steel (connector and button), aluminum (doors), plastic (body)

Mechanical mod with MOSFET

Large Fire button

Powered by 18650 battery

Supported resistance: recommended above 0.2 Ohm

Bottle volume: 8.5 ml

Gold-plated contacts

Atomizer placement: up to ∅25 mm

Color: Black

On top, closer to the button, there is a steel connector with a diameter of 22 mm, the platform is made flush with the body, so the base of a larger diameter dripper can scratch the plastic. The connector position allows installing atomizers up to 25 mm, anything larger will hang over the side and front roundings. There is a deep groove on the platform, in which there is an o-ring, preventing liquid from leaking from the channel of the squonk under the dripper, and at the same time preventing the atomizer from sticking to the connector. The positive pin is spring-loaded (the channel with the tube is lowered), has a good power reserve and there were no problems with the tested drippers (except for the Battle Deck, for which I still do not have a squonk pin). There was absolutely nothing on the bottom plane, not even the standard pictograms prohibiting disposal with household waste and compliance with EU standards.

Impressions

After a week of using the S2 Squonk mod, I can only say that the device is definitely convenient, simple, and even excellent in places, it “fries” well and is very pleasing. Only a few points can be classified as features rather than disadvantages. The first is related to the inconvenience of removing the battery. Here you should understand that squonks rarely have a battery strip for a simple reason: sooner or later it will be smeared with liquid (no matter how reliable the bottle is, and no matter how carefully you handle it), and this is an inevitable source of foreign odor. And in general, something inside the mod is constantly in liquid – ugh! But, unfortunately, the designers did not think this point through to the end: you cannot remove the back cover and push out the battery, the panel is almost impossible to pry up, and there is no hole in the holder to push the battery from the inside. The same applies to the bottle, which is sometimes difficult to get out. The second point is related to subjective shortcomings, in my opinion, the only proposed color, even if it is universal Black, is frankly weak. Why couldn’t they make the same replaceable panels as for the CS1, especially since Augvape loves this business and regularly releases new “doors” for its Druga Foxy? I have already mentioned the other nuances in the text above, but in general, I personally really liked the device. Naturally, due to the lack of a full-fledged control board, the S2 is intended only for advanced users. The device works as a classic mechanical mod, that is, it gives all the voltage available on the battery, and will require the vaper to have full control and understanding of what and how it does.

The squonk is perfect for lovers of single-coil drippers, with two coils you will have to change the battery more often, and here, as we found out, not everything is made convenient for this.
